Draft 2006 Goals and Objectives

1. San Miguel Land Heritage Program, Phase 1V ; The Open Space Commission will continue to facilitate preservation of important lands in San Miguel County through the purchase of development rights program. The OSC will prepare and submit Great Outdoors Colorado grant applications which to fund the program. The OSC will survey past participants of the program to assure program credibility and accountability.

Gunnison Sage Grouse - The Commission will participate in the Gunnison Sage Grouse working group. The Commission will strive to accelerate land protection through the CSCP and Land Heritage/PDR programs and give assistance by preparing CSCP applications. The Commission will work to protect and improve existing habitat by managing oil and gas development issues such as road relocation etc.

3. Telluride Regional Master Plan Amendments/LUC Review – The Commission will play an active role in Master Plan and LUC amendments as they pertain to open space issues. The Commission will continue to review development applications. The OSC may be asked to review the master plan or land use codes.

4. Open Space Web Site Improvement – The Commission will continue to update the website and provide links from popular websites such as Daily Planet, Telluride Visitor Services, Mtn. Village Visitor Services, Resort Quest, Telluride Resort Association, etc.

5. Fundraising/Pennies for Open Space/SMPA Program – The Commission will continue working with SMPA to promote Pennies for Open Space and explore other possible sources of funding.

6. Education/Outreach – The Commission will facilitate lectures on relevant topics in conjunction with local non-profits.

Public SurveyThe OSC will update the information upon which its programs and activities are based by conducting a new public survey and/or updating the existing 1998 survey information

High Country Zone District – The Commission will explore potential expansion of high country zone district to include the mesas.
